Brexit and your uk driving licence

UK nationals currently legally resident or intending to become resident in Cyprus.

The Ministry of Road Transport Cyprus state that drivers can continue to use their UK licence without exchanging it until 7th July 2021.

You are encouraged to exchange your licence within this period. If you hold a licence from Gibraltar, Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man, you may need to take a test.

Details on how to apply are on this site. Increased demand may lead to longer processing times and delays to exchanging driving licences.

When visiting the UK, you will be able to drive on your Cyprus licence.

It is currently the case that residents of Cyprus from third countries ( which now includes the UK) who have been resident in Cyprus for at least one hundred and eighty-five days must apply for a Cyprus driving licence. Their national driving licence no longer being valid after that time.

For a number of countries it is possible to exchange the licence their national licence for a Cyprus one. A list of countries is on this site.

Visitors who reside in the UK

May still drive in Cyprus on their UK driving licence afterBrexit.

Return to live in the UK

If you return to live in the UK, provided you passed your driving test in the UK or another specified country, you can exchange your EU licence for a UK licence without taking another test.

It is belived that ‘specified country’ will include Cyprus but it not yet confirmed.
