Back in May, parliament shuttled through a bill to reduce the alcohol limited for certain groups of drivers in Cyprus from 22mg/dL per 100ml to 9mg/dL. The law aimed to reduce the number of traffic accidents amongst young people whilst, at the same time, increase the use of public transportation and taxis.
The bill will not affect only young drivers, but also motorcyclists and the professional drivers of trucks, buses, taxis and vehicles carrying dangerous and heavy loads. The legislation essentially bans motorists with only three years driving experience and professional drivers from having more 9mg/dL of alcohol in their system.
