The Department of Road Transport announced the launch of a call center, aiming at the best possible service to citizens and the provision of valid information on vehicle recalls due to defective airbags.

Contact Phone: 22-600500

Opening hours: Monday – Friday, 08.30 – 15.00.

In addition, the Department of Road Transport provides answers to frequently asked questions of citizens, to immediately inform and facilitate them in the inspection process for the replacement of defective parts.

1. Below is a list of vehicles that are under recall for airbag replacement/repair.

2. This list concerns active vehicles, i.e. registered in force or declared immobilized on 14/11/2024.

3. The list shall include vehicles subject to the recall in question. In some vehicles there is a directive for IMMEDIATE STOP (4the column) due to withdrawal of the certificate of conformity and concerns the vehicles referred to in paragraph 2 above.

4. All owners are urged to take seriously the no-use recommendation announced by the Ministry in December 2024 and, in case this is not possible, to take measures to further reduce the risk, such as moving wherever they can with other vehicles.

5. The following list was compiled on the basis of information in relation to the vehicles referred to in paragraph 2 above, which was received by the Department of Road Transport until 31.1.2025.

6. The information mentioned above has been sent to the Department of Road Transport by the manufacturer’s distributors and/or has been extracted from an evaluation/analysis of all active vehicles on 14.11.2024.

7. The evaluation/analysis was based on available information regarding recalls for airbags of other countries. Therefore, the outcome of that assessment is not exhaustive.

8. The list shall indicate for each vehicle the source of information, i.e. whether the information came from the manufacturer (via its distributor) or whether the information was derived from the analysis carried out.

9. In cases where the source of information is the manufacturer, then the information is final and the owner of the vehicle is required to ensure that the necessary corrective measures are taken.

10. Where the source of information is derived from a comparative analysis of different sources, the vehicle owner shall be invited to contact the manufacturer’s distributor to confirm that the vehicle is subject to a recall. The owner is then asked to ensure that the necessary corrective measures are taken.

11. In the case of vehicles that are subject to an airbag recall according to that information and there is no distributor of the manufacturer, the information shall be considered final and the vehicle owner shall be required to ensure that corrective action is taken.

12. The entry for the VOLVO manufacturer concerns a recall for airbags that are not manufactured by TAKATA. (Date added: 04/02/2025)

13. The analysis of the volume of information was carried out by the Department of Road Transport (TUM), in collaboration with the Center of Excellence “Koios”, which had a purely advisory and voluntary role.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding vehicle recalls for airbag replacements issued by the Department of Road Transport in Cyprus. Here are the main points:

  1. Received SMS Notification: Vehicle owners who received an SMS notification about the recall must contact their vehicle distributor or dealer for an airbag replacement appointment.

  4. Comparison with Other Countries: Other countries with similar issues allowed citizens time to complete recalls, sometimes without immobilizing vehicles.
